George Claxton – didi rugby Ormskirk, Lancashire
Biography – George Claxton – didi rugby Head Coach
George Claxton is the proud didi rugby franchisee in Ormskirk, Lancashire, bringing a lifetime of rugby experience and an inspiring personal journey to the didi rugby community.
George began playing rugby at the age of 11, developing an early love for the game and the values it represents – teamwork, resilience, and respect. At 15, following a spinal cord injury, his rugby journey took a new direction. A year later, he discovered wheelchair rugby and hasn’t looked back since. Competing nationally and internationally at club level, George has won multiple tournaments and gained invaluable experience across both able-bodied and disability sport. His journey is a testament to determination, adaptability, and the power of sport to transform lives.
Alongside his playing career, George has built a strong academic and professional foundation in sport. He holds a Level 3 Diploma in Sport and a degree in Sports Development and Management, specialising in the development and delivery of sporting events and coaching programmes. His studies have included a particular focus on disability sport, as well as the welfare and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults — values that are central to everything he delivers through didi rugby.
George has also recently completed the RFU Schools Coaching Award, further strengthening his expertise in delivering high-quality, age-appropriate rugby sessions.
As a head coach working with children aged 18 months to 6 years, George’s coaching philosophy is simple: make rugby fun, inclusive, and accessible for all. He focuses on embedding fundamental rugby skills through engaging, imaginative activities that build confidence, coordination, and a love for movement. Every session is designed to create a positive and supportive environment where children can thrive, develop key physical skills, and take their first steps on an exciting sporting journey.
Through didi rugby Ormskirk, George is passionate about introducing the next generation to rugby in a way that celebrates ability, builds resilience, and most importantly — makes every child smile.
